The Next Great Christmas Present is....Street Signs?
There's a growing trend in the unique gifts department heading up to Christmas this year and the product might surprise you. No, it's not Wow Wow Wubzy, Bratz, or even Elmo. It's personalized Street Signs and everyone is buying one.
What was once an object of theft for teenagers, has become the must have gift for baby showers, wedding presents, and yes even Christmas. This cottage industry seems on the verge of exploding says small business owner Bob Egizi, publisher of the popular Mudpie4me.com website. “We're seeing a definite increase in purchases of street signs this summer over last and moving on towards Christmas. We're expecting to be very busy.” When asked what the furor was all about, Egizi said, “Everyone loves driving and seeing a street sign with their name on it. It's a sort of fame, sites like mine allow people to bring that fame home legally and without getting a lot of people lost. It's a fun thing to have on the wall”
Dan Diorio of Fort Myers agrees. “I bought one when my daughter was born. It's a nice decoration but it's also something I'll have forever because of how it is made. I know that when she grows up and moves out I'll still have that hanging on the wall to remind me of her.” The truth of the matter is that there is virtually no difference between the signs you can purchase online and the ones standing at the end of the street giving the purchased sign the same air of danger that inspires so many teenagers to steal their name.
“I found a Brandon Way when I was 15 and just had to have it.” Says Brandon Intihar, who purchased one for of all people, himself. “I lost it somewhere along the way, so being able to customize my own sign is great, it brings back a lot of memories.”
