What is Adware?

Adware is a software program which show banners, ads, pop-ups, and such on your computer. Originally Adware started as a way for programmers to recover development costs. However, what often passes for Adware today is nothing more than Spyware, collecting data about the user and providing it to a third party without permission or consent from the person who the information
belongs to. Most of the time the computer user does not know that any spyware is present or that his computer is infected.

Adware and Spyware can slow down your computer, corrupt your registry and steal you personal information. These infections include annoying pop-ups, tracking cookies that follow you every where you go on-line, keyloggers that record your passwords, trojans and various computer parasites that
may attack your hard drive. These infections not only wreck computers but are responsible for thousands of cases of identity theft and credit card fraud every year.

How to identify the problem.

One of the biggest problems that internet users have today is preventing and removing unwanted and malicious programs from their computers. If you answer yes to any of the following questions then there's a good chance that your computer is infected with spyware.

- Has your computer slowed down and has your internet connection speed decreased?
- Have you downloaded music or software from the internet?
- When your online, are you plagued by annoying pop-up ads?
- Has the number of spam emails that you're receiving increased considerably?
- Has your default home page changed to one that you didn't ask for?
- Have an extra tool bar on your computer and you don't know where it came from?

At one time or another almost every computer will get infected with some sort of spyware.

There are many free Adware and Spyware Removers available on the internet. Often the free, cheep versions can do more harm than good. The problem with many of the free Adware removers is that they often fail to completely remove the adware and many of them install more Adware than they remove.
