“Golf is a good walk spoiled!” I am not sure who said that but if you play golf, as I do, I am positive there are times when you would agree with that quote wholeheartedly. It annoys me when people say, “It’s good just to be out here having fun.” Or, “I don’t keep score, I just go out there to enjoy myself.” Please. You will hear statements like these from a golfer who is either a liar and is trying very hard not to show how much his or her 20 handicap bothers them, or, a golfer who plays once or twice a season. Every other golfer tries to get better and shoot a lower score each time they tee it up.
We have all had the occasional round where not much goes awry. Tee shots find fairways, approach shots hit greens, and we get up and down for pars instead of bogeys or worse. Granted, the scorecards that reflect this are more often than not few and far between.
I am lucky enough to be able to jump up to New Hampshire with a group of friends once a season for a four day golf get-a-way. The course is challenging to my cadre of hackers but it will at times yield a low score. During the second season I found myself playing one of those fairy tale rounds. When it was all over I shot 79! I was thrilled. I won the low round of the trip and the small cash prize that went along with it. Why can’t I play like that more often? Why can’t you play better more often? I will tell you why, WE DON NOT HAVE ENOUGH KNOWELDGE OF THE GOLF SWING TO ANALIZE PROBLEMS AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS CORRECTLY. Few people do.
Take a short trip with me, back in time, to a hole on a course where you have laced a drive, stuck the green and drained a ten foot putt! Sweet isn’t it. But then on the very next tee you snap hook your drive out of bounds or chunk it twenty feet. Been there, done that.
This inconsistency is what makes this game so frustrating. That is why a more consistent swing will allow you to eliminate those dreadful shots and be able to score round after round in the eighties and yes, even the seventies! There is help out there my friends! Click the link below and visit my blog. Your enjoyment of this great game will increase dramatically as your high handicap melts away.
Let’s not spoil another one of those walks!! And remember, KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN!!
