obile phones are no loner just for making call and sending text messages to your friends and family. They are now seen as all in one entertainment devices which have to offer more to the customer. One feature that is now becoming more and more important is the phones ability to play and store music. Mobile phone manufacturers are looking to replace then need to carry an additional MP3 player by building in quality music player into there phones. Here we look at 3 of the best music mobile phone, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, the Samsung M7600 Beat DJ and the Motorola ROKR E8.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been specially designed for it music playing ability. It has a 3.2 inch touch screen and the latest S60 interface, especially adapted for touch screen control of the phone. As the XpressMusic name suggests, this is a fantastic music phone and was made for music lovers. Supporting microSD cards up to 16GB there’s plenty of storage for music and video files. There’s an accelerometer, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio and a TV out port for viewing videos or playing the built-in games on your big screen.
The camera on the Nokia 5800 has 3.2 megapixels and a dual LED flash. This might not sound too great but it has a high quality Carl Zeiss and that makes all the difference. Photographs are noticeably better compared to those taken with an iPhone or with an older generation camera phone. The built-in web browser is excellent. The screen renders quickly and web pages can be dragged with a finger swipe or zoomed with a double tap on the screen. The Nokia 5800 has 3G, HSDPA and Wi-Fi. There’s also a built-in GPS receiver and a special touch screen version of Nokia Maps is pre-installed. Don’t forget it’s also a phone! The on-screen numeric keypad makes dialling easy and there’s a choice of on-screen QWERTY keyboards or handwriting recognition for text input.
Next we look at the latest music phone by Samsung. The Samsung M7600 Beat DJ takes music phones to another level. Curved ends of the phone conceal miniature Bang & Olufsen stereo speakers. Beneath the 2.8 inch touch screen there is a circular music dial, which overlaps on to the actual handset case. During normal music playback this is used for fast forward or rewind music, or to skip to the next track. Switch on the Beat DJ feature and this control then lets you scratch, add filters and effects plus make fine adjustments. You can create your own mixes, which can then be recorded on to the phone.
The 2.8 inch touch screen display uses Samsung’s Touch WIZ user interface. You can drag and drop widgets from the side bar on to the home screen. There’s also a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, face and smile recognition, plus an LED flash. The Samsung BeatDJ M7600 also has 3G with HSDPA, GPS and a microSD card slot to add up to 16GB of memory. If you’re looking for a music-centric phone that has good features all-round, or if you have any interest in making music as well as listening to it, then the M7600 Beat DJ is for you.
Finally we see what Motorola has to offer the music phone market with there ROKR E8 mobile phone. The Motorola ROKR E8 is a dedicated music phone with cutting-edge, easy-to-use controls that allow a smooth transition from phone to MP3 player to imaging device. The face of the ROKR E8 is a sleek, seamless panel that features the first haptic touch pad from Motorola, which provides vibrating, tactile feedback when you touch the virtual buttons on the display screen. It's a very light mobile too; just 100g and 10.6mm thin. Primarily a music phone, the device lets you load songs from multiple sources and is compatible with standard connectors, software and accessories. This mobile phone is compatible with Windows Media Player, simply drag-and-drop songs, artists, albums and playlists. There's 2GB of memory, which can be expanded to 4GB using a microSD card. The ROKR E8 also has a built-in FM radio, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, a 2 megapixel camera and a full HTML web browser.
These 3 mobile phones we have looked at are just a selection of the best the market has to offer at this present moment. No doubt in time mobile phone will advance even further in there music playing ability and what they will be able to offer.
