INDIA, Dec 19 — Actor Al Pacino has graced the big screen for many years and his movies include a huge array of blockbuster hits. He has broken women’s hearts and gained men’s respect as the legendary Michael Corleone in The Godfather Trilogy. He has broken women’s hearts and gained men’s respect as the legendary Michael Corleone in The Godfather Trilogy. He did it again 20 years later when he starred as blind veteran Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in The Scent of a Woman. Pacino has had his share of dull movies that made you wonder why he decided to take the roles in the first place. I’m assuming that he and Robert De Niro had to be paid very well to do Righteous Kill because this movie was terrible. The dynamic duo certainly should not have been hurting for money or more publicity so why either of them said yes to this film is beyond me.
I’m sure that producers were happy because without these two actors that movie would have sunk faster than the Titanic. Pacino has made many great choices as well, one of my favorites being Donnie Brasco. The acting in this film was great all the way around with stars like Johnny Depp and Michael Madsen also in the mix. I love the 70’s style of the movie with the leather jackets and chunky sunglasses. Pacino did wonderfully in this film as an old time mafia gangster who was getting older and tiring of the whole scene. He was constantly looking over his shoulder, waiting for his turn to be “taken care of”. He meets up with the young Donnie Brasco and takes him under his wing showing him the ropes of the business but his newfound friend is not what he seems. You’ve got to love a great mafia movie and everyone who does knows that Pacino and De Niro are the kings. Al Pacino won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Scent of a Woman. He was nominated for the same award for his work in …And Justice for All, Dog Day Afternoon,
The Godfather: Part II and Serpico. His versatility as an actor allowed him to be successful in movies of different genres. His hilarious performance in Dick Tracy as “Big Boy Caprice” landed him the American Comedy Award in 1991 for Funniest Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. Pacino knows what it’s like to be a superstar with the world at his fingertips but he also knows what it’s like to be homeless. His parents divorced when he was two-years-old and he and his mother moved from East Harlem to the South Bronx, NY where they lived with her parents. Pacino had difficulty passing his courses in high school. He did well in English but failed most of his other courses. He was however very interested and talented in acting. He decided to drop out of high school and this disappointed his mother and led to many arguments eventually causing him to leave home. He acted in underground plays and lived in theaters as well as on the streets of New York while working many odd jobs.
Pacino auditioned many times to become a member of The Actor’s Studio before he was finally accepted after his audition in 1966. He attributes his admission to the studio as the beginning of his career when he could work solely as an actor. He left his odd jobs behind and began his new life. Pacino is now co-president of The Actor’s Studio in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan along with Harvey Keitel and Ellen Burstyn. We know how successful Pacino is as an actor and but it doesn’t end there. He will receive the ’Jane Wyman Humanitarian Award’ for his contributions to finding a cure for arthritis in children and adults. The award will be handed to him in the end of November 2009 in Los Angeles during the Commitment to a Cure Awards Gala.
