AUSTRALIA, Aug 30 — One thing that my Gran dad Ted who was a master baker taught me was how to bake cake from scratch. He also taught me that a cake is a universal favorite food, no matter what age you are.
He also used to say with a big laugh “Maggie if you know how to bake a cake, and frost it nicely, you will win friends and the admiration of others”
My Grannie Minnie (Ted’s wife) was also an amazing cook (they had 11 children) used to say “The way to keep your family happy is to fill them up with good home cooking” – so I heeded her advice and learned to cook everything from scratch – after all I thought – Gran and Grandad fed 11 happy and healthy children over the years take their advice was gospel!
So let’s begin – firstly I would like to say if you are clueless about how to bake cake from scratch, don’t panic– there are many like you, who like to bite into a lip smacking cake, but are completely clueless about how to bake one!
Chances are that you have always wanted to get a grip on some simple recipes about how to bake cake from scratch, but never found the right opportunity to ask the right person.

Here are some Easy Peasey steps for beginners on how to bake cake from scratch and a recipe that is VERY HEALTHY but simple and when made is lip smacking – it’s a -
Pumpkin Chocolate Cake:
To get started, you need 2 sponge cake tins 9 inches (22cm wide) which are adequately greased and floured.
Preheat oven to Moderate (see bake cakes now – weights and measures conversion)
3/4 cup Butter/Margarine (room temperature)
1½ cups castor sugar.
1 cup cooked well drained pumpkin (mashed)
½ cup milk
2 eggs well beaten
2 cups all purpose flour (Triple Sifted)
3 Tablespoons Quality Cocoa Powder (Triple sifted with the flour)
1 teaspoon baking powder – sifted with the flour
½ teaspoon salt – sifted with the flour
1 ½ teaspoons Pure Vanilla Essence
Using an electric hand held mixer beat the butter and sugar together until very light and creamy (about 4-5 minutes).
Turning mixer to very low speed, then add the pumpkin, mix until well blended.
Now add a little milk, a little of the beaten eggs and 2-3 tablespoons of the flour mixture – mix until well combined. Keep on doing this step until all ingredients are combined well.
Now turn up the speed of the mixture and beat a further 2 minutes.
Divide mixture between the 2 cake tins by pouring equal amounts into the middle of the tins. Gently spread out to the sides.
Place into center of the oven and cook for about 25-30 minutes. If a skewer inserted into the middle of the cakes comes out clean, the cakes are cooked.
Take from the oven and leave in tins 10 minutes, then decant onto a wire rack until completely cooled.
Once cooled, make a delicious Chocolate Cream Frosting – top one of the sponges with some and place the other sponge on top of that, then completely cover the top and sides with the remaining frosting – Yummo!
Now you know how easy it is to Bake Cake From Scratch.
