When you create an outdoor pond for your garden, you can actually consider a few things for it. You can create a purely aesthetic pond that has such features like a waterfall, a fountain, or different decorative elements to help give your garden that added touch of beauty you want or you can have your existing pond or your pond idea evolve to become a haven for fish like the koi ponds and goldfish ponds that other people have.
When you decide to create an outdoor pond without really considering putting fish in them, you do not need to do much with it but you also do not have the joy of having colorful fish for you and your family to enjoy when you want to. When you have koi ponds and goldfish ponds in your garden, you give yourself and your family some very colorful-finned friends to enjoy looking at when the mood strikes you. If you find that you don’t have the time to really care for fish in your garden then a fishless pond is ideal for you, but if you find that you want fish in your pond, then you need more than just a pond and a pond pump for your outdoor pond.
When you have fish in your pond, you need to have a few more things added to your list of pond materials needed to make it habitable for your fish. Koi ponds and goldfish ponds need to have water that is safe for fish to swim in and live in. Therefore, it is important that you condition your water first to remove any chemicals that may be in it. You will also need to include some water plants for your outdoor pond when you are seriously contemplating on converting it to a fish home. These plants will give your fish a place to hide in and stay in whenever they feel threatened and can give the water the much-needed oxygen that these fish need.
Some of the other things you need to consider before you convert your outdoor pond into either koi ponds or goldfish ponds is the size and the depth of these ponds. If your existing pond is shallow, you can only house goldfish in them since these kinds of fish can survive in water that is at least 3 inches deep. If you have a deeper pond, then you can have the bigger koi in them. Aside from depth considerations, the size of your pond will also determine what kind of fish you can have in it. Bigger ponds can allow you bigger fish, while smaller ponds may only allow you smaller varieties of pond fish. This is due to the need for these little creatures to have ample room to swim around without it being too crowded for them or detrimental to their health. Whatever type of fish you do decide to have in your pond, you can be sure that you and your family will enjoy having these in your pond.
