Carbon Hill Inc., announces the “green light” for Palembang-VER1144, reforestation project Indonesia Carbon Hill announced today that all formalities concerning their Indonesian reforestation project have been fulfilled. The long anticipated project of reforesting 14,000 hectares of land near the city of Palembang on South Sumatra is scheduled to be completed in the beginning of 2014. Deforestation in the area has been going on for decades and something needed to be done, says Jeffery Klemp, Carbon hill project leader for Indonesia. Forests are central to Earth’s climate because, like oceans, they are a carbon "sink.", Through photosynthesis, trees absorb carbon dioxide, the principal greenhouse gas that is heating the planet’s atmosphere.
Allowing trees to grow larger before logging increases the carbon stored in a forest. So do widening the forested buffers along streams and clearing out underbrush to allow more space for trees. This project will yield close to 2,9 million metric tons of carbon reductions which will be offset on the open markets. Carbon Hill has already signed 8 long-term contracts with the Indonesian government and some industrial companies outside of Indonesia. The proposed long-term operational model for the area is a combination of plantation areas and ’outgrower’ models, whereby local farmers are provided seedlings and training and Carbon Hill buys their carbon reductions at a set discounted price.
Carbon Hill is an organization dedicated to addressing climate change and global warming by ensuring profitable trading of carbon credits. Carbon Hill is comprised of a team of professionals working in areas as diverse as education, information technology, climate research, business development, carbon markets, carbon offsets, carbon credit project origination, clean and renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction. Our accredited carbon offset projects cover the whole range of carbon credit origination from renewable energy to bio-diversity plantings, which assist in reducing greenhouse gas emissions whilst improving the environment.
