o be able to work from home is a wonderful thing, but it isn't all glitter and glamor. It brings in different kind of obstacles than a normal job. You need to identify these characteristics, the sooner the better. If you start changing your mindset you will see it will become easier to deal with the circumstances that come with working from home. Applying this mindset will help you evolve faster and will help you get further in the future.
First you must identify what your strengths are. This is also one of the hardest things to do. Only when you identify your strengths you can know where to put your efforts in. It is impossible to do all things good so it is better to put your energy in aspects where you excel in. Maybe you are a good writer or a good designer. Most of the times you don't even know what your strengths are because you do things so good you don't even recognize them any more as strengths. An excellent test to identify your strengths is called the Kolbe test.
When you have identified your strengths you can start planning and setting goals. You should set goals and it isn't a shame to think big here. Here you have to be somehow realistic but thinking big isn't wrong. Think big for the long term goals and break these goals into small goals. If you don't break them into small goals, you will always keep working against a big wall. Small goals should be reasonable easy to achieve. You can break your goals into weekly and daily goals, and plan your day with your daily goals in mind. The best way I found out to plan your activities for the next day is to make a schedule before you are going to bed. This way you don't have to start your day figuring out what you should do. Don't over plan your day, it will be disapointing if you don't reach your goals for the day.
Working from home takes a lot of focus, consistency and patience. The results will not be big in the beginning. This is also one of the main reasons why people fail. They give up to soon if they don't see any fast results. This was also one of my bad characteristics before I created the right mindset. Moving from one to another work at home opportunity because the result weren't there fast enough. If you stick to one model and really trying to work that and make money with it, is the best motivator to keep working from home. If you believe in your business model, you should work it as hard as you can.
Be prepared that your family and friends don't understand what you do to make an income online. Most people still don't understand how the internet works and especcialy how you can make money on it. Trying to explain this can take ages and they still don't understand it. It is better to simplify what you are doing and put yourself in their shoes for a minute.
Being able to work from home is a great thing, but always beware of the pitfalls. Hopefully you won't become a victim of them as so many have been. Don't let anybody or anything take you down if you want to start working from home.
