CANADA, Dec 08 — To believe in only one God is good because that is what the 1st commandment is telling us in Exodus 20:3 saying:  “Thou shall have no other Gods before me.”  However, it looks like at some point we differ in our understanding, because this commandment made many unable to accept Jesus for the reason that if they accepted Jesus they would believe in two Gods instead of one.  This was the problem of Saul before he became Paul.  God wrote the first commandment which means this is very important to Him, but we dare use it to disobey His command to listen to the one he sent saying Jesus is not God because there is only one God

T o believe in only one God is good because that is what the 1st commandment is telling us in Exodus 20:3 saying:  “Thou shall have no other Gods before me.”  However, it looks like at some point we differ in our understanding, because this commandment made many unable to accept Jesus for the reason that if they accepted Jesus they would believe in two Gods instead of one.  This was the problem of Saul before he became Paul.  He persecuted the Christians of his time because he thought they contradicted his belief that there is only one God.  Many of this type of believers settled down to the idea that Jesus is not God but only a man whose righteousness has to be emulated.   So, the issue is resolved there is only one God.  Is it really resolved?

Let us do this slowly.  Genesis 1:26 implies the plurality of God by using phrases such as “let us”, “in our”, and “after our”.  Definitely, God was talking to the 2nd person.  He was not alone. Genesis 6:2, Job 1:6, Job 2:1, Job 38:7 spoke about the “sons of God”.  They must be Gods too.  1 Samuel 25:30 and Psalm 110:1 talked about two lords.  This can make many of us think that the Bible is inconsistent, but bear with me while we go further. Psalm 110:1 was cited by Jesus when he threw a question to the Scribes saying:  “How can you say that the Messiah will be David’s descendant when David said, ‘The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.’”  This only means that the second lord David was talking about was also God before he came in the person of Jesus, and later successfully regained his godliness when he conquered death and ascended back to the Father.

In Matthew 6:6 Jesus said:  “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret……”  There are 2.1 billion Christians all over the world.  If all Christians pray at the same time, they would be talking to 2.1 billion presence of the Father wherever they are all over the world.  If you have any problem with this, then in your mind you are limiting the power of God.  Now the question is:  which is which, only one God or many Gods?  The answer is obvious, but let me ask you a question. What kind of God is our God if He is unable to make Himself plural or singular?  Here we see how our physical point of view renders the teachings of the Bible seemingly inconsistent.   We cling to our physical perspective to underrate the power of God.

In John 15:5 Jesus said:  “I am the vine you are the branches.”  This means that the Father in heaven makes his presence available to not only the 2.1 billion Christians but to all in case the rest change their mind and turn back to God.  The Father does this thru the power He gave to His Son.  In Matthew 26:26 Jesus symbolically broke the bread in the last supper and called it His body that is broken up for all of us.  This broken bread is the image of God referred to by Genesis 1:26 that is in every man and that makes man a living soul.  This is the same as the Word in John 1:9 that is the light of every man.   The Word, the branches, and the broken bread mean the same.  The point is that when God breaks himself into the Son down to the branches, there would be billions of branches and those branches are the presence of God.  That means that God can make Himself plural by those branches but still singular as a whole vine.

Jesus went further by quoting Psalm 82:6 of the Old Testament in John 10:34 saying “Ye are gods.”  He also taught us the Lord’s Prayer telling us to call His Father our Father.  Luke 17:21 says “….the Kingdom of God is within you.”  This means that there could be billions of gods on earth if all of us are able to accept the presence of God by eating the bread and drinking the wine that Jesus was talking about in the Last Supper.   What then does the phrase “other gods” in the first commandment refer to?   It refers to the lifeless sculptures of gold, silver, wood or earth that the pagans worship. Other gods never referred to Jesus or any of the angels in any manner or degree because they all are presence of God and therefore, God himself.  Imagine a branch of a living God bowing or kneeling before a lifeless sculpture.  Is this not a huge insult to the living image of God inside?  Is this not provoking God to his face as mentioned in Isaiah 65:3?  This is the way we drive away the living presence of God out of the Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).  Our flesh body gets old, gets sick, dies and crumbles back to the dust where it rose from.   The spirit of God ceases to strive in us because our heart is filled with wickedness (Genesis 6:3).   We worship God with our lips but our hearts are really far away (Isaiah29:13).

What happens when we draw our hearts away from the God of the living?  We draw away from life and die.  Those who find me find life (Proverbs 8:35).  God wrote the first commandment which means this is very important to Him, but we dare use it to disobey His command to listen to the one he sent saying Jesus is not God because there is only one God.  Oh my God.
