t’s all around us and it is used for all kinds of purposes - not least to give us drinking water to help us stay alive. This article looks into the many different uses of water on a daily basis so we can understand more about it. Water is something we all take for granted. This should not come as a surprise - we see it rain, we see water coming out of the tap at home, and we can even buy it in bottles. It seems as if we are surrounded by it.
But this should not make us think too casually about it. After all without it we would be in dire straits. Water is used for so many different purposes - for leisure, for life and for business. Where would we be without it?
Luckily governments do not tend to take water for granted. Various water monitoring systems are in place all over the world - many of which are not generally known about. The idea is that the more we know about water sources and how they react to the changing conditions around them, the more we will know about the water on our planet and how much we can rely on it.
For example not all water is safe to drink or even swim in. Every swimming pool in the country should have the correct amount of chlorine in it to keep the water clean and safe to swim in. Similarly chlorine is added to water tanks that are used to store water for various purposes. tank chlorination is done on a daily basis by many companies that are in business for this very purpose. If water was stored in a tank without any chemical interference to keep it safe, it would soon be very undesirable and no one would want to drink it.
As you can see when you start looking into water and its supply it becomes more involved than you would think. Unless you work in the industry in some way you wouldn’t know about water monitoring or tank chlorination processes because you would have no need to come into contact with them. The most that we would know about them would be to learn how we could save water so we don’t take it for granted. This is coming into effect already because a lot of houses in the UK are going over to water meters. This means they will be charged for the exact amount they use, rather than being charged at a flat rate. It makes it even more important to ensure we don’t waste water.
It is easy to see why we might underestimate how important water is, because we always have it on tap - literally. But as you can see there is more to it than we might think. Without it we would be in big trouble, but we also need to learn how to manage it and make the most of what we have.
