Did you find the constant need for notice disturbing? Did the barking and/or nipping shock you? Were you astounded by the immense nosiness and thirst for naughtiness?
Well, welcome to the world of dog ownership --- beneath their benign appearance, lies a resolve of steel.
Wondering how to temper /mould the steel?
Well, it takes patience, persistence, and strength of mind.
One can, turn the creature into a tractable loving puppy --you just have to follow the “golden rules.”
Burn up the get-up-and-go
As several studies have shown, all canines have a persona that is in reality a reflection of their energy levels. They are recognized to have short bursts of energy followed by naps.
In order for you to keep and keep up a steadiness in your dog’s life you will have to make certain that 50% of the dog’s interaction is training . And keep in mind working out does not mean pottering around the house. Your Dog requires at least one half hour of exercise everyday to use up its extra energies and this does not take in “play” time.
You the pet owner/parent need to make certain that 25% of the 50% is training exercises. This does not represent just obedience school or short spurts of training finished 2-3 times a day but obedience that is a part of daily life.
Practice “nothing in life is for free” and you will reap rewards. Your dog must be taught to mind and earn his praise, stroking, rewards and so on. Never ever admit defeat to the limpid/sorry looks. I am sure you are aware what happens when you “spoil a child.”
The remainder 25% of the relations should be friendliness. I am sure, that is as long as your dog is being good to you, if not, pay no attention to him and carry on your daily duties. And, if you only “pay heed” when he is bad - such as if he is jumping, barking, running with toilet paper in his mouth etc, you are giving him damaging attention - In other words you will be training your dog how he can get your attention - that is by behaving badly!
Do try and take notice when he is good - show approval him, stroke him, hug him - tell him what a good dog he is.
What is the best training method for your Dog?
What is the most prevalent training approach in use today? The answer would be “encouraging reinforcement.” The idea “Nothing in life is free” is a successful way to live happily with your dog.
To set up the agenda, you need to make a list of activities your dog loves to do. And, teach him principal puppy commands like: sit, down, stay, shake, speak, roll over, and so on.
Now, before you treat your dog with any “loving” activity comparable playing, petting, rubbing, or going for a walk, your dog must execute one of the commands well - no shirking no avoiding.
The rule you must remember is simple “No work. No Play.”
Here is how:
You:
1. Put his leash in place to go for a walk. 2. Provide for him. 3. Play with him when you come home from work. 4. Rub his belly or scratch his head while watching TV.
In turn he must:
1. Sit patiently until you connect his leash. 2. Should lie down and stay until you put his food dish down. 3. Must sit and shake hands each time you throw a ball/toy for him to fetch. 4. Must lie down and roll over prior to being petted.
Once you have given a command he must mind, otherwise you should not {give|provide|hand over to him] what he wants -walk away and pay no heed to him. And start once again after a few minutes. Show doggedness and tolerance and you will discover that he will toe the line.
