You could also try to look into his personal life as there could also be something there that is contributing to his being a bad boss. Once you have seen his problem areas, it is already time to carry out some effective steps on how to deal with a difficult boss such as him. You can support him by being a team player. If you have a big organization, then this could be your way to getting either a reassignment or a promotion and more importantly, this could bring a change to your boss’s behavior, especially if he sees that there is somebody who understands him and is willing to stand by him.
It is also important for you to refuse being used as a doormat by your bad boss. You should always exercise your right to speak and to not tolerate any despicable behavior that has been directed at you. This is because there are really some people who do not have a clue that they are behaving badly already, so your voice could wake them up to see what is going on. There is a possibility that your boss thinks that the tyranny he has been doing is effective in managing everyone under him, when in fact he is dead wrong. So it is up to you to tell him so because this is one of the effective steps on how to deal with a difficult boss. You have to be assertive and firm in telling him what he has done wrong, while still maintaining the respect that should be accorded to a higher-ranking official in the company.
As soon as you notice rotten behavior from your boss, then it is best for you to take notes as soon as this starts to happen. This is to make sure that when everything you have done to alleviate the situation has failed, you have the proper documents to back you up when you elevate the situation to a higher level. You have to remember to place the time and date in your notes and to be very particular as well. Instead of just writing you were yelled at, write that your bad boss almost blasted your eardrums when he shouted at you at the hallway and accused you of doing a number of things to sabotage the project you were handling.
