Yeah, in accordance to the Indian culture, the festivities have begun. Durga Puja, which is a 10 day long colorful festival, has commenced. The most significant and the most celebrated four days are Saptami(7th day), Ashtami(8th day), Nabami(9th day), Dashami(10th day). Going by the Indian myth, it’s the carnival of Goddess Durga’s emphatic triumph over the evil Mahishasur(He was put to ultimate and permanent death). Well that was all about the origin of the festival…..
The City of Joy becomes all the more joyous during this time (Kolkata is the city where the festival gains maximum momentum). This is perhaps the time when the city looks the best in the world, with decorations, lightings, streamers and all that. The nightlife during Durga pujas simply bowls everyone over. Preparations including making of pandals, designing lightings, etc start more than a week ago, and the grand unveiling of the deity and the abode of the idol
(Pandal) takes place on Sashti(6th day). Mahashtami, the 8th day of the festival is the day when the carnivals are on a high. Dashami marks the farewell of goddess, which is both a sad and jam-packed activity. Dhak(desi beats) and dance symbolizes the day, as they do throughout. The shopping spree hits the Indians(especially Bengalis) almost a month ago… The pandals are an extravaganza…it’s also a competition of creativity when it comes to pandals(the abode of goddess).

A typical sight during the pujas is that of couples…. and the pujas mind you is the best backdrop for romance… love fills the air …and during pujas the overlooking of enmity is a must, and no proposals are rejected by girls on this occasion…!:-) Guys surely will have their day out as they do… Happy Pujas … The ball has stared rolling!!
