Such architects add wonderful and memorable contribution to mankind. One such architect whose buildings seem to be out of the fantasy realm is Antoni Gaudi, and its Casa Batllo in Barcelona.
Visitors from all the around the world drop by Barcelona, Spain to explore Gaudi’s unique work such as the Park Guell, Palau Guell and the Casa Mila. These works have been given the status of World Heritage by UNESCO. However these are not only the works of Gaudi that deserves appreciation. The Gaudi’s Casa Batllo is an exemplary work which was awarded the World Heritage status in 2005.
The Casa Batllo in Barcelona was originally built by Emilio Sala Cortes in the year 1877 in Passeig de Gracia. Josep Batllo y Casanovs bought it in 1903 and commissioned Gaudi to renovate it. When the famous artist took the reins, the building was transformed forever.
The building is not only breathtaking and beautiful; it has many hidden creative elements. For example, the balconies of Casa Batllo’s are subtlety shaped like half skulls. To enhance the balconies, Gaudi added columns outside that look like human bones. No wonder the Casa Batllo is also known as “House of Bones.” Even though Gaudi used bones as inspiration for the columns and balconies, the building is not scary at all.
One of rooms will make you feel as if you have stepped into the Jules Verne’s novel, Twenty Thousand leagues under the Sea. The roof on the other hand is made of big spherical pieces of colorful masonry that takes the shape of a dragon’s back with mushroom-like chimneys!
What people adore about Gaudi’s Casa Batllo in Barcelona is that he has used so many different elements to shape the building inside as well outside without making it into a hodgepodge! Every room, window and even brick is a surprise in this building. The pictures of the Casa Batllo will amaze you but walking in to the building is a memorable experience that you don’t want to miss!
The best part about this building is that it is located in Barcelona-the city that is always buzzing with activities. Anybody touring Barcelona, a hot tourist destination, can drop by in Casa Batllo in Barcelona. It is open all year around from 9.00am to 9.00pm.
