There are other fascinating things about Barcelona as well, such as that it was home to famous architect Antonia Gaudi. He has built some great buildings which would fascinate anybody who sees it. However, one of his most outstanding productions is the “Palau Guell” meaning Guell’s Palace.
Built in the 19th century, Eusebi Guell, a famous politician and industrial tycoon commissioned the architect Antoni Gaudi to set about building the most extravagant and comfortable building for its time. The building was made from high quality material and fine wood. There are many details about this palace that take your breath away. For example, the rooftop consists of 20 decorated chimneys, each decorated in a never-before-seen-style! Then there is the main party room of Palau Guell. The room has a high ceiling with tiny holes near the top so lanterns can be hung at night to give the ceiling the appearance of a magical starry night.
The architect also did an excellent job in furnishing the interiors of the Palau Guell building, because every element of the rooms complement each other. He built marble columns inside with elegantly-built roofs and luxurious furniture. Palau Guell’s beauty cannot be described in words and must be seen to enjoy the full pleasure of this architectural wonder. The building is the part of UNESCO World Heritage Site “Works of Antoni Gaudi.”
This Palau Guell building is also famous for the fact that it is Gaudi’s first work and the only project that was completely finished by him. The building is open from Tuesday to Sunday inclusive. From 1st April to 30th September, the building is open from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm. During the winter, from 1st October to 31st March, the building is open from 10.00 am to 5:30 pm. The ticket (2011) for entry costs 10 Euros for all ages. If you go in a group of 10 to 20, then tickets can be discounted to 8 Euros for each member in the group.
