UNITED STATES, Jan 30 — It is common that spam gets into your business mailbox (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live or other clients). You might find that filters provided by your business e-mail provider to protect you from getting all the viagra and earn 1000$ with one click’ commercials are insufficient. Try these 4 steps to reduce the spam coming into your mailbox:
1) Make most of spam blockers in your e-mail client (in Outlook go to Tools/Rules and Alerts). Since it is difficult to apply it in reality, make sure that you do not register with your main business e-mail to receive newsletters, subscriptions or for membership at websites you do not fully trust

t is common that spam gets into your business mailbox (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live or other clients).
You can indicate which from which e-mail accounts/addresses you do not wish to receive e-mails or with which word in the title and many other options. If you are not sure how to do this go to the manufacturer’s website and search for FAQ. For example on the Microsoft website you can find plenty of free video tutorials dedicated to Outlook’s various functions.
2) Don’t be lazy to mark junk mail as junk. If a spam e-mail sneaks into your Inbox instead of going directly to Junk/Spam folder, take several seconds to mark it as junk, instead of just deleting it. This way next time it can be detected by the filters.
The problem is though that spam robots are more and more sophisticated and keep on sending e-mails not from one address but from random. This makes spam detection more difficult. I use Outlook and despite spam filters on my e-mail account provided by my e-mail provider not all spam was blocked. Some spam messages were really nasty and kept on coming from same source but were sent from different e-mail address. It was impossible to filter it out through standard Outlook filters, as they would not pick this spam up. However, here come the programs that can learn over time which e-mail is good and which bad, based on the actions you take when organizing your mailbox (i.e. marking it as spam or not):
3) Install spam blockers software that will run on your mailbox client and LEARN to detect from you what spam is. I have installed such a program and for several days I continued marking spam e-mails that got through to my mailbox and shortly the spam blockers in the software ’learnt’ what kind of e-mails it should delete. In a week time it learned to recognize majority of nasty e-mails by tracking what I do with you e-mails. It is possible thanks to the so called Bayesian Spam Filter.
4) Last but not least - make sure you apply the basic spam prevention rules to protect business e-mail from abuse. The less you distribute your e-mail online the less chance it will be abused. Since it is difficult to apply it in reality, make sure that you do not register with your main business e-mail to receive newsletters, subscriptions or for membership at websites you do not fully trust. Instead you can use an alternative e-mail info@ subscription@ or even create a special account only for that.
