S wing to the rhythm of Jazz in Barcelona! The city resonates with culture and tradition, yet manages to be one of the most up-to-date cities in the world. There is always a festival going on in the city which brings it alive with light, colors and music. You will find many historical attractions as well modern amusement parks and other entertainment hubs. It is also seeped with dazzling beauty because it has some of most breathtaking beaches and landscapes.

The city is also a major economic and financial center. Therefore, it is no surprise that Barcelona always takes an initiative to promote major arts, culture and music.

One such long-going initiative is the annual jazz festival that takes place in Barcelona every year, and the International Jazz Festival in Barcelona 2011 will be till December. This annual event gives jazz musicians from all around the world a platform to come together, they play music for people who share their passion.

So if you are a jazz fan too and happen to visit the city during this time, I also recommend to book accommodation in advance at

The International Jazz Festival in Barcelona 2011t is in fact a stage that showcases new upcoming talent from Spain. Take the example of Andrea Motis, 16 who will perform in this festival with another new band called “Sant Andreu Jazz Band”. The preview of the festival was held on 27th
September by Trombone Shorty and there is a free performance by the
Liceu Conservatory’s Big Band at Poblenou’s Central Park on 16th October. As the festival will be hosted around the same time as the Umbrian Jazz Festival in Italy, many Italian jazz musicians like Enrico Rava

Tribe will also be dropping by in the festival.

Honoring dedicated and talented musicians

This year La Locomotora Negra will celebrate their 40th milestones in the festival as well as receive the Medal of Honor from the International Jazz Festival itself. They are going to share the award with another famous artist Maria Schneider. In fact, the opening concert will be led by Maria and her band in Palau de la Musica Catalana on 20th October. The festival itself is a great opportunity to see why these musicians deserve such a prestigious award.

Closing ceremony of the International Jazz Festival in Barcelona 2011
The festival will end on 1st December with a performance by Paolo Conte who will play songs from his latest album ‘Nelson’ in Auditori. Other performers who you shouldn’t miss out in this jazz festival are Silvia Perez Cruz, Michel Camilo Trio and Giovanni Hidalgo, Brad Mehldau Duo and many more. The entire event comprises of many activities that include family breakfasts, jazz performances and musical dinners at the Montjuic

Magic Fountain.

The festival also promotes other music styles so there will be concerts by Ryuichi Sakamoto Trio, The Pepper Pots, Madeleine Peyroux and Okkervil River. In short, it is an event that everybody can enjoy. After all, music is the language of the soul, so don’t miss the fun!
