UNITED STATES, Jan 27 — I have thoroughly enjoyed my holidays as a time of discovery and reflection...
My most recent movie score enjoyed: A Muppet Christmas Carol
I
have thoroughly enjoyed my holidays as a time of discovery and reflection... I have busied myself the past couple of weeks with score prep and parts production for ’imprint’ for orchestra. This has been a highly painstaking process of editing to ensure ease-of-use for the conductor and performer alike.
Making certain that score and parts agree, that page turns are placed with care, and that instructions for all special performance considerations are clear and concise has taken my evenings, for the most part. I enjoy the craft of my art as much as the art of my craft.
While wrapping up concerns for ’imprint’, I have begun to ponder my next series of projects. I have developed quite a list of potential musical subjects, each awaiting its moment under the microscope, as it were. I do, however, know what mediums I wish to focus my writing for the next few months.
I plan to begin with a piece for wind quintet, follow it with a string quartet, and initiate another symphonic piece for orchestra, as well as a piece for middle school band. The wind quintet serves my desire to enter a contest held by Sambora, a village in Croatia. The string quartet, in case I am selected as a finalist in an already-entered competition.
The symphonic piece because I love the medium and feel that ’imprint’ has provided me with a launching point for my next orchestral work. And the middle school band piece as a challenge.
I have experienced difficulties in taming my musical ideas into their simplest terms for performance by intermediate musicians. In other words, all my JH band music is too hard! So, I have wagered myself to attempt to accomplish satisfactorily a MS Band work that is worthy musically, and also accessible to most adolescent musicians. Hmmm.... best of luck, huh? By the way, I mentioned "wagered" because I have put a round of golf on the line. If I am successful, I get to treat myself to a round of golf. If I fail, I have to buy myself a round of golf.
I have experienced some wonderful music over the past week. The following is a list of the more notable pieces I have recently become acquainted with, or revisited: Goat Rodeo album with YoYo Ma, the violin concertos of Higdon and Tchaikovsky, Keller’s Riding the Purple Twilight, Gudnadottir’s Without Sinking, Barber’s Summer Music for Wind Quintet, Arvo Part Spiegel im Spiegel, and finally all recordings of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet that I could find dated 1992 to the present.
I also have found great inspiration in a book I recently purchased. A catalog, really. It is the posthumous compilation of dress designs by couture designer Alexander McQueen. What a gifted and tragic soul.
Another very pleasantly surprising creative inspiration I tripped over just last night. C and I watched a relatively new Brad Pitt movie, The Tree of Life. The film is esoteric and feels much like I imagine an acid trip would. It reminds me a great deal of Malick’s The New World in tone and sequence. The ambience is breathtaking and the digital imaging and cinematography are incredible. Very deep contemplations of life, its meaning (or lack thereof) and our place in it are laced throughout the film, while anchored to a specific family’s experiences. Two thumbs up.
I neglected to mention that I have received the first of a series of new headshots for PR purposes. This will make those of you who know that my current headshot is 10 years old happy, I hope.
My most recent movie score enjoyed: A Muppet Christmas Carol. Good stuff.
I hope you are enjoying 2012 to date and preparing for your Mayan finale! :)

Once upon a time record companies would hand out a fee to record music they neither understood nor cared about. They wouldn’t pretend to like the music or the musicians involved and they wouldn’t expect too much of a return on&n

If you intend to start learning blues piano, I recommend you work your way through at a few beginners books first. If you don’t have any, there many recommended books that can be found on places like Amazon with the usual reader ratings.
Music selection for an exam/audition is one of the most important you can do. Choose easy pieces and you might be accused of "playing it safe" Choose harder ones and you might be criticized for overextending yourself or being overambitious.

These albums were happening along the time that I was happening. I was really into real R&B and I still am. These type of tunes were very truthful — there's an honesty that went with them. Those artists communicated to people, they were about the
Filters, how do they work? They may be used to make tracks work together in a mix. If two sounds are very similar and they are competing for the same space in the frequency spectrum, then it can be a good idea to apply some filtering on one of the so
Now and then, people ask me for advice on where to begin with the daunting world of classical music recordings. They've heard bits here and there, they\'re curious, they imagine they'd probably enjoy it once they got involved, but they wouldn't know
Talent exists in millions of artists, but there are only a few, who make it to the top. Those few who made it to the top were definitely exquisite talents, but were shaped and projected upwards by professionals in the field of music. New York recordi
