Rainscreen And The Increasing Demand In The Architectural System
C hanges in the weather conditions can easily depreciate a building. This does not only cause inconvenience to the residents and users of the housing but also mean added maintenance costs to the owner of the property in case of damages or breakdown caused by natural elements such as the wind and the rain. This lead to a growing need for a new technology in the housing industry that can strengthen the life or the use of the property without having to spend a couple of bucks to maintain the property. This need thus leads to the development of rainscreen. Rainscreen is one of the latest technologies used by the real estate and architecture industry to meet the new standards in housing. This is the resistance to rain damages that can be a result of a gradual erosion of the walls of a property. The rain-screen principle requires the control of all the forces handled by a drained cavity wall plus the air pressure difference acting across the cladding. Unknown to many, rains and wind can result to dramatic changes in the exterior wall of a building or a house. Moreover, corrosion of anchors of exterior cladding, efflorescence on masonry, damage and staining of interior finishes are some examples that can be the effect of the weather changes. On the physical side, the appearance, the function, and the comfort of the space, can lead to inconveniences to the residents or the tenants of a home or a building.

To answer the mentioned problems, research and developments has become more extensive and intensive. Developments of rainscreen calls for a fast progress in construction methods to protect the building while at the same time, the technology should also answer the need for a more sophistication in the design of the exterior wall.

Therefore façade treatments are developed on rainscreen such that it can be installed faster and achieve the weather tightness. Internal fit out packages also has been one of the standards in modern architecture system.

As a result specialist subcontractors are demanding to find a single resource or supplier to meet this need for quality rainscreen. Pre-requisites are high strength or the spanning capabilities, low weight and high quality extrusions, ease of installation and universal substructure arrangement or that the façade type can fit many designs.

The development of rainscreen will continue as there is a continuous development in the housing technology. This therefore can be a great challenge to suppliers of rainscreen.
