INDIA, Aug 26 — Foreign Body by Robin Cook is a thriller, and why it has struck a chord among all and sundry, one will get to know only after it has been read. An important issue of concern has been brought out without hampering the entertainment quotient, or making it boring. oreign Body by Robin Cook is a thriller, and why it has struck a chord among all and sundry, one will get to know only after it has been read. An important issue of concern has been brought out without hampering the entertainment quotient, or making it boring. The story very effectively deals with the corruptions that are rampant in the medical world. Set in India, Los Angeles and New York, this story does not fail to make an impact.
The outline of the story goes like this – the protagonist, Jennifer Hernandez has a sour relationship with her father, having being brought up by grandmother, Maria Hernandez, Jennifer is a medical student, who discovers from the news bulletin that her grandmother has died in a New Delhi hospital. She takes leave and rushes to India and with her fellow friends and colleagues and successfully unfolds the ‘multilayered conspiracy’.
The relationship angle has been handled quite elegantly.
The story at times drags a bit too much, but soon gains momentum, not to worry. The cover design does not seem as attractive as the story but we know ‘All that glitters is not gold’ and vice versa. The pricing at Rs 295 is anything but pricey, but the no of pages (436) is certainly way beyond what it should have been. A little less description, a little more vibrancy would have made it tediously perfect, which is not desired, frankly speaking. None of the characters seemed half baked, the overuse of unnecessary complex sentences does seem to be the only drawback but all in all it is a good read, not a must.
If you are a regular reader, I would urge you to just go ahead, and enjoy ’Foreign Body’...
