he Sony Ericsson W580i is a delight to possess. It may at times or often remind one of Motorola L9. What is strikingly pleasant is that the rival brands have aimed at one purpose in unison – to please the customer. The most arresting part of W580i is its look, the black matte finish, combined with a delightful carroty shade with its pop slide and chic buttons is a rare mishmash.
For L9 too, black is the base but luscious in contrast to that of W580i, plus it looks like a bright star with the backlight. Its master may look at it more than his/her partner! Features are pretty much the same with 2 Mega Pixel Camera, Video, smart keys, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, internet access and memory expandable up to 2GB. Both the phones aim at facilitating the process of mobile phone usage. While Sony scores way ahead of Motorola in terms of sound (W580i gives superb stereo and surround quality effect but L9 is just a bit too far from loud), Motorola defeats Ericsson in picture quality with a very thin margin though. While Motorola provides one-touch FM Radio,
Ericsson offers one-touch Walkman. The ‘shake’ feature of this walkman phone (W580i) is truly stylish and worth flaunting. The major drawback for Ericsson is the fact that it does not allow fast-forward, pause or rewind in recorded sound clips or videos whereas L9 does. It is dreadful that the W580i does not keep a record of call times. It is an absolutely necessity that is neglected. For personal reasons, or professional, or for no reason at all, checking out the time of the last call or so is a frequent deed. L9 does not disappoint here too.
L9 has a severe downside and that is, it needs a good amount of charging, has a poor backup.W580i has an unique and appreciable feature, and that is ‘health and fitness’ – this commendably records the number of steps we walk on a given day and lets us know how much calories we burnt and so on; trivia, interactives and quiz also make a part of W580i.
