First of all, no bank or FCU (Federal Credit Union) would ever send a text message at all, under no circumstances.
Second of all, if you’re going to try and scam someone at least have the decency to have correct grammar! “regarding recent restriction”? Come on…
Ever seen this picture, scammers? There are people out there who will scam you, you scammers - it’s called “scambaiting”, according to 419eater.com.
Aside from being annoying, and actually dangerous for those who are fooled by these messages, they COST MONEY!
If you’re not an avid text-messager, chances are that you don’t have an ‘unlimited text messages’ feature on your cell phone plan and each message you receive will cost anywhere from $0.05 to $0.20.
You might be saying, “So what, I can afford a few cents”… Imagine having to pay for every spam message you get in your email inbox(es) - stuff like this can add up real fast.
The thing is stuff like this can get real dangerous - like get your identity stolen kind of dangerous… The scam is best described by a post from The Daily Courier:
“The text message scam works like this: A consumer receives a text message stating that a bank has suspended their account. The consumer has to call a phone number to “reactivate” the account. When they call the phone number, a recorded message asks the person to enter his or her bank account number. The text messages pretend to be from various banks and credit agencies in the state”
And whatever you do, DON’T reply back to them! I would love to tell these guys off as much as you would, but all it will do is let them know that your number is a valid number and… BAM!…more spam!
