am obsessed with vampire books, which figures because most of the world is into it too. I am currently almost done with The house of night Series by author duo P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast. Just one more book that comes out in January 2011! This is my favorite book series so far about vampires. It gives Vampires a whole new meaning.
Vampyres(The way its spelled in the books) live among us as if we’ve always known about them. Most celebrities and famous people through out history were Vampyres. These Vampyres can go out during the day, although the sun does bother their eyes, they can eat food and they definitely can die. They do drink blood and it does make them stronger. It also feels good for both the vampire and human they’re feeding from. Vampyres are chosen and Marked. Being marked is when they gain a crescent moon tattoo on their forehead as a human.
Then they begin the start of a complete mental and physical change in their bodies creating them to become a vampyre. But if they don’t make it through the change they drown in their own blood and die. Once a kid is Marked they are sent to a House of Night. It’s a school where they learn Vampyrism and live amongst others going through the change as well. They attend school like a private high school. By their last year as a sixth former they either make the change or die.
The main character Zoey Redbird gets Marked and sent to a House of Night specially gifted by the Vampyres Goddess, Nyx. Usually a young Fledglings tattoo does not change or fill in or expand unless they go through the change into an adult vampyre. But Nyx has blessed Zoey with a filled in crescent moon and tattoos that wind up expanding all over her body. Which is unusual in any adult Vampyre too. Zoey has the power to basically control all 5 elements, Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit. Rituals are how they pray to their goddess and they cast circles to call to the elements. Zoey becomes the leader of the Dark Daughters(an elite school "sorority" like club).
The Dark Daughter leader is always in training to become a high priestess of Nyx. They are always specially gifted and touched by their goddess. Zoey gains friendships, love interests, and experiences Blood Lust. She goes through hell and back and on many adventures through out the series. I would recommend this book series to a mature audience only. It has great humor and awesome adventure. It’s a Can’t Close the Book read. I can’t wait to read the last one and find out what happens next..
