ometimes, we get too overwhelmed when traveling, especially if we are going to certain place that is far away from our domiciles. It’s like breaking out of our shells and discovering the beauty of the world for the first time. There are also circumstances when we become too afraid to explore the environment because we do not want trouble in a foreign land. And there are circumstances when we do not think too much before doing something, that we almost forget that we are in a different place.
But before you get totally lost in sheer enjoyment, excitement, and all the feelings in between, there are five basic things that you should NOT do to avoid inviting hassles that will break the gratification of your most-awaited break…
Don’t transact with money exchangers - Converting money in banks and money exchangers have a high service charge which cost 10% to 15% of the converted amount. Convenient and safe to use, bank cards always give the best exchange rate for their valued customers. So to avoid losing a big value of your dollars, make sure you have a Master or Visa card ready to use anywhere and coordinate with your bank before you leave your country.
Don’t waste your time - You go to a foreign place to see sights that can’t be seen back home so explore the destination. You did, indeed, pay a lump of money to enjoy some good amenities of your chosen hotel but then again the reason why you travel is to check out beautiful sceneries far from the busy lights and high buildings of the city. So go out and discover what the destination has to offer and get to know the foreign land better.
GO FOR LOCAL DISHES THAN FASTFOOD - While pizza and cheeseburgers may be your favorite, you can always grab one in your street. When in another place, always try the local cuisine instead of running to that familiar fastfood chain. How often can you experience real Thai fare from a street vendor, or a true Chinese takeout? Along with your trip, allow your tastebuds to do an exploration of their own.
GETTING WASTED IS A WASTE - While drinking is never a bad thing (unless your destination is the Middle East), make sure to drink in moderation. A spin at the bar never hurts, especially if the local tab is very agreeable with the exchange rates. However, never forget that you are in a totally different place, surrounded by completely foreign strangers. And you don’t want to spend that last day with a terrible hangover in bed, instead of enjoying your remaining hours outside.
Don’t ride a taxi - Riding a cab in a foreign place will cost you a fortune. It might be the easiest ride around the town but no one’s in a hurry when in a vacation, so I suggest you enjoy local transportation. Sight-seeing is best enjoyed while riding local transport such as subways, trains, or unique public rides offered by certain countries so learn to blend in with the community.
Being wise is definitely a key to any life’s decision so pack it along in your luggage before you leave your home. Enjoy what vacation has to offer but draw some limitations for yourself. The best trip is best served when we think before we act. So before you take any step and regret everything in the end, think with your head and enjoy your trip straight from the heart.
