UNITED STATES, Jan 30 — Traditionally wood has always been the material of choice when a homeowner wants to build or install a fence around their home. While metal fences have also enjoyed a high level of popularity among homeowners who want or need a fence, the material has never been as popular as wood do to some limitations and the heavy weight associated with it. Wood fences, and to a lesser extent metal fences offer homeowners a myriad of choices when it comes to design, color, and durability.

Wood fences, and to a lesser extent metal fences offer homeowners a myriad of choices when it comes to design, color, and durability.
In more recent times fences made of vinyl have become so popular that they rival fences made of wood and metal. This is because vinyl fences are not subject to many of the downfalls and maintenance requirements that wood and metal fences are. In years past vinyl fences all looked cheap and didn’t offer much in the way of variety and design though that has changed dramatically as of late. Compared to today’s models the vinyl fences of yesteryear look pretty shabby and sub par.
So good is the technology surrounding vinyl fences now that these types of fences have become virtually indistinguishable from fences made of wood. Moreover vinyl fences are impervious to moisture and heat and will therefore never peel, crack, warp, or begin to rot as a result of exposure to these things.
While temperature swings, even infrequent ones, can cause wood fences to expand and contract, vinyl fences are immune to these types of extreme weather changes. The vinyl fence that a homeowner purchases, providing they care for it properly, will look the same years after its purchase as it did the day it was purchased and installed. Moreover the maintenance just mentioned is very light and homeowners need only to hose off their vinyl fence whenever it begins to look dirty or has debris caught in it.
What it essentially boils down to for a homeowner who needs a fence is cost and maintenance. Does a homeowner want a fence that requires constant work and maintenance in order to not only keep it clean but save it from damage or does a homeowner want a fence that looks like wood that they can admire without having to clean it regularly or replace due to decay? With vinyl fences looking just like wood fences the choice should be a simple one for most homeowners especially given the fact that vinyl fences are also more affordable than fences made of wood.
