The two groups believe that they will help them to quickly rebuild muscles broken down in workouts and training. The question arises concerning protein bars efficacy and popularity. The following paragraphs go through protein bars and why the remain so popular.

What Protein Bars Actually Are

Protein bars prove to be a nutritional supplement. They offer a low carbohydrate boost to the body that is paired with high protein content. Athletes love to eat them after heavy duty workouts in an effort to help their bodies increase muscle mass. Besides this, the protein content in protein bars is supposed to help a person meet his or her recommended daily allowance for protein. The USDA sets this minimal amount at fifty grams per day. Some people take them for this nutritional reason.

The Ingredients Making Up Protein Bars

Protein bars contain a wide variety of ingredients. The natural ones are comprised of oats, peanuts, eggs, milk, and sugar. Besides these naturally occurring ingredients, soy protein or whey is also put into many of the commercial varieties of protein bars. To make them taste better, a great number of protein bars are additionally coated with yogurt or chocolate.

Nutritional Value Offered by Protein Bars

Naturally, the specific ingredients in a given protein bar will determine what its individual nutrition level is. The majority of protein bars feature high protein content amounts. Downsides to Protein Bars

Protein bars are generally safe for most people to consume. They do have a few downsides to them though. These include their commonly elevated amounts of both saturated fats and refined sugars. They were not designed to substitute for meals, though they are often taken in such a way. Some of these protein bars have peanuts inside of them. Because of the Salmonella concerns that have surrounded peanuts and their products in the past, some protein brand bars have been recalled by the Food and Drug Administration.
